A conceptual photo documentary exploring domestic violence. After substancial research and using stories closer to my heart, I chose to portray this violence metaphorically. Rather than bringing clarity to the stories I hope that questions will be raised in the viewers mind as to what the significance of a hallway corner might be, the creases in bed linen and the poignancy of flowers.
To feel these same emotions, comprehend what compels a person to abuse their loved one and understand why another would accept the abuse and stay, is an impossibility. It is very easy to tell someone to pack up and leave without grasping the magnitude of emotions they are dealing with. To put a stop to domestic violence would be fantastic, but as this seems unlikely what we can do is try to understand, to support and to guide those in trouble to safety.
